When making a violin, does soaking the wood in an alcoholic drink make it sound any better?
Does soaking violin wood into some alcoholic drink make it sound any better than a violin of the same quality NOT soaked into a beer/wine/whiskey/spirit ?
&& also, this isn’t related to the question, but what are the best modern violin brands that you would recommend? I need a brand that isn’t so expenseive (less than $1500.00)p.s. Stradivari is NOT a modern maker!
Answer 1) NOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Don’t soak the wood in ANY Alcohol or other solvent. You’ll crack the wood and/or kill the voice of the violin.
2) I recommend Hoffner for a basic full sized instrument although you might be surprised. My violin is a 1926 Colin Mezin, which I bought for AU$1200. I got it valued and insured for AU$30,000.
